Bachelor in Agricultural Science and Agricultural Economics - students enrolled until the academic year 2006-2007

Objectives and contents

The aim of this Bachelor is to provide students with  practice-oriented academic knowledge  which emphasizes applied research. The subjects of study planned for this Bachelor are Agricultural Science and the field of Agricultural Economics. Another main objective is to preserve and promote the development of agricultural companies. Thanks to a highly qualified teaching staff, through an interdisciplinary and global approach, the students will gain the essential notions needed to acquire specific skills that respond to professional requisites. The students will also acquire methodologically innovative instruments and cutting edge strategies needed in order to solve problems. The study plan has been elaborated in such a way to offer to students- in the content and methods areas- the means needed to face the complex and multifunctional issues of the alpine mountain farming and fruit cultivation economy. The subjects of study respond to the needs of the work market and they provide the students with the knowledge necessary to protect the resources of the alpine area and to guarantee a possible growth. Another essential element of this Bachelor is the flexibility of the contents and of the research projects, which reflect a world that is constantly changing. 

Objectives
In order to face the challenges of the alpine mountain farming and fruit cultivation economy, the graduates of this degree course will need to gain general knowledge of fundamental topics of their own field of study and acquire the followings skills:

Major in Fruit Cultivation:

  • Knowledge of the basic techniques of production, storage, preparation, transformation and distribution of fruit cultivation products
  • Knowledge of cutting edge marketing and management strategies in the fruit and vegetables field
  • The ability to elaborate and apply strategies in order to solve problems while respecting the existing laws and regulations
  • The ability to manage medium and large-scale production companies and cooperatives


Major in Mountain Farming:

  • Knowledge of the basic techniques of production and transformation of agricultural products
  • Knowledge of the methods of cultivation suitable to alpine areas
  • Elaboration of financing and supporting programmes of the EU (European Community) and management of working groups designed to promote the development of structural programmess
  • Overview of the structural and developmental issues of rural areas


Majors in Fruit Cultivation and Mountain Farming:

  • Ability to respect the environment and the landscape while finding solutions to the problems of the mountain farming economy
  • Ability to recognize the interdependence between ecosystem and the economic structures
  • Ability to manage others and to work in a team, ability to effectively communicate and to perform critical analysis
  • Ability to use their own specialized abilities to give consultation to farmers, agricultural associations and counties/provinces
  • Ability to create and manage organizations
  • Ability to try new developmental avenues which respond to the changes of the society, and to use society’s resources and creative power of transformation.
