Welcome to the page of the Rectorate
My mandate as Principal of the Free University of Bolzano / Bozen is to coordinate all academic activities and to further their progression. My notion of our university is of a community in which we can all learn from each other and which gives stimulating and critical impulses to the society of which it is a part  and to other academic institutions.

Two core characteristics of our academic life promote these learning processes:Our relatively small number of students enables us to maintain very personal contacts with each other. This gives students, teachers and researchers the chance to exchange interests, experiences and knowledge also informally. I would like to invite you to make use of this privilege. Learning does not take place exclusively in lecture halls but also through all those informal encounters which our locations provide at the heart of three lively cities in our region.

There is also the multiple language dimension; we speak, write and live the languages which are our daily environment and they thereby offer us further opportunities to plumb the depths of all knowledge from both a subjective and objective perspective. One and the same subject matter,  explored in different languages, can reveal additional dimensions of meaning when related to specific cultural contexts.

In this way our international learning community and our multicultural context provide fertile ground.  Our university is committed to follow international quality criteria and my wish is that you all contribute to their realization.
