Multilingualism and interculturalism are the main characteristics of the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano. The five faculties, which have a great number of lecturers from abroad, deal with subjects connected to economics, the natural sciences, technology, computer science, design and the social and educational worlds.

Teaching and research at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano are characterised by their trilingualism; the teaching languages for the vast majority of the degree programmes are English, German and Italian.
This makes the University an ideal place for our students to become more effective communicators and linguists; two skills that are highly sought after by employers.
An aim of the University is to foster its students’ proficiency in the three teaching languages both before and during their studies.
The University’s Language Centre offers language courses to facilitate this task.
Learning a language is not just confined to the language classroom, however: language learning also takes place during the subject classes due to the multilingual teaching approach and together with the various forms of language consultancy services offered to students, there are ample opportunities to improve your language skills.
The language levels that you reach by the end of the studies will be certified in a special “language passport” as well as in a “Diploma Supplement”: this is an important qualification that will be extremely useful when seeking employment.
