Suspension
The PhD students may obtain leave of absence from the compulsory attendance in some occurrences (for instance maternity or illness) according to art. 25 of the Regulations concerning PhD research programmes.To apply for the suspension, please fill up the form:


Maternity
In the event of maternity, the PhD student is required to suspend the attendance of the PhD programme during the two months  prior to the due date of the birth and during the three months after the birth (with the exception of the flexibility). All the information concerning the maternity are in the following document:


Permit to stay and its renewal
The permit to stay for study reason allows students to work part-time for 20 hours a week (maximum 1040 hours per year).

The PhD students with study grant may apply for the “family reunification”. Please ask for more information on this matter at the development office.

The permit to stay must be renewed in time at least 60 days before it expires. Please avoid any trips abroad so that your permit does not expire while you are out of Italy. If this happens, you will have to return to your own country and go through all the procedures to obtain a new entry visa. To renew your permit, you must have the following:
  • application form (kit which should be collected from a post office);
  • your passport, which should be valid and which contains the entry visa, and a photocopy of the whole document;
  • photocopy of documentation certifying the study grant. If you work, you can show your income by completing form 2;
  • photocopy of your medical insurance (public or private);
  • a photocopy of a certificate showing that you have passed at least one exam for the first renewal and at least two exams for the second renewal (this can be requested from the faculty);
  • your expiring permit (if you are renewing it);
  • Receipt from the post office that you have paid.

 

Important: foreigners who are awaiting the renewal of their permit cannot enter other Schengen countries.
