Prevention in Times of Repression
08.03.2012 - 09.03.2012
Safety is one of the most widely discussed topics in our society. The natural need for safety, however, seems to be degenerating into an "obsession with safety". It is nurtured by the feeling of constant threat in many fields of society. The convention’s main topic is the positioning of prevention in a society dominated by thoughts of control and safety.
Prevention should aim at increasing the individual’s self-efficiency. People should be taught decision-taking, personal responsibility and critical thinking. Prevention promotes participation and shared decision-taking of target groups and at the same time it strengthens their skills and responsibilities in the sense of empowerment.
