1. The Faculty

When is it possible to talk to the lecturers?
It is possible to talk to the lecturers during their planned office hours or with appointment.

Where are the Faculty's offices?
The Faculty Secretariat and the offices of the teaching staff are located in the K-building (satellite station) in piazza Università 5. During the opening hours an administrative collaborator is available at the InfoPoint (office K3.08) on the 3rd floor.


How may I contact the teaching staff?
It is possible to contact the teaching staff either by phone or by e-mail. The relative contact information can be found in the following lists:

What sort of information is provided by the Faculty Secretariat and which by the other services?
The Faculty Secretariat responds to all requests related to the study plan, the lecture timetables, exam recognitions, regular examinations and the degree thesis.
In order to obtain information on work placements please contact the Career Service, for exchange programmes the International Relations Office and the Student Secretariat with regard to fees, your personal account and the Student Card.


2. The Bachelor programmes

Until when can I pre-enrol for the Bachelor programmes and how do I pre-enrol?
It is possible to pre-enrol for the Bachelor programmes until 20th August 2013.
Pre-enrolment must be effected online. The period of enrolment lasts from March to August. Useful informations here

How is the selection procedure going to be?
The selection procedure consists of a multiple choice test to determine the general and specialized knowledge in the field of logic, mathematics and science subjects.

Which are the language prerequisites that have to be fullfilled?
In order to be able to follow the lectures and other classes at our university, students should come with a good or advanced knowledge of the three languages.

How can these language competences be demonstrated?
Language proficiency can be demonstrated in the following ways:
a) holding secondary school leaving qualifications (A-levels, Abitur, Maturità, etc) where the main teaching language of the final year was in one of the official teaching languages of the undergraduate degree course; 
b) holding an undergraduate or postgraduate degree if awarded in one of the three teaching languages of the degree course, or holding a bilingual or trilingual undergraduate or postgraduate degree awarded by the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano;
c) presenting, for the relevant languages, a recognised qualification or certificate;
d) passing a language test organised by the Language Centre of the Free Unversity of Bozen/Bolzano.

When will the rank lists made public?
By 9th September 2013 the ranklists will be published.

Until when can I officially enrol?
Enrolment will be possible until 2nd October 2013.

Is it possible to attend lectures if I am not enrolled at the University?
Any person interested in a specific course can attend single courses.

When does the lecture period begin?
The lecture period starts on 30th September 2013.

When are lectures held?
Lectures are held from Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 20:00. The timetable organisation depends on the availability of each lecturer.

What is the language used in the lectures?
Lectures are held in German, Italian and English. Within the tree years of the undergraduate degree course the proportion of each language is approximately 1/3.

Where can I find the timetable for lectures, exercises and office hours?

If the timetable changes where can I find the relevant information?
If the change is made "last minute", in general you will be informed by e-mail. In any case, we recommend you to regularly check the timetable in order to remain updated on eventual changes. 

What do the shortcuts in the timetables mean?
The buildings and rooms at the FUB are identified by letters and numbers: the letters represent the building in which the room can be found. Among the three following numbers, the first refers to the floor and the subsequent numbers to the room number (for example: E220 = E-building, 2° floor, room 20).

 Ser-A A-building (main entrance, piazza Università), 1st elevator in the main corridor:
  • Ground floor: Canteen
  • 1st floor: Library
  • 4th floor: Small lecture rooms
  • 5th floor: PC-Room, I&CT and Main&Tech
 Ser-C C-building (historic building), 2nd elevator in the main corridor:
  • 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor: Small and medium sized lecture rooms
 Ser-D D-sector (between C- and E-building):
  • Ground floor and 1st floor: Large lecture rooms
 Ser-E E-building (secondary entrance, via Cassa di Risparmio), 3rd elevator at the end of the main corridor:
  • Ground floor: Coffee room
  • 1st floor: Didactic lab
  • 2nd floor: PC-Room and small sized lecture rooms
  • 3rd and 4th floor: Small and medium sized lecture rooms
 Ser-F F-building (secondary entrance, via Ospedale):
  • Ground floor: Medium sized lecture rooms
 Ser-K K-building (satellite station, piazza Università):
  • Ground floor, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor: Offices

Is it essential to attend lectures?

No, but attendance is highly recommended.
It is essential to follow all the laboratory exercises.

Where can I see my study plan?
Each students' study plan can be retrieved in the Student Portal, within the Study Career section.

What is the Student Portal for?
The Student Portal is a platform on which you can:
  • visualize your study plan, the passed exams and the exams you still have to do;
  • consult your personalized timetable (with the possibility of adding and hiding courses);
  • subscribe and unsubscribe to exams and optional courses during the enrollment period;
What is more, within this portal you will be able to use a lot of useful services like the Exam SMS service. Additionally the Student Portal allows you to modify your personal data, reset your password and visualize or download the payment receipts of the University fees for your annual tax declaration.

How and when may I choose the optional courses?
During the summer break students will receive an e-mail from the Faculty Secretariat containing all the relevant information for subscription to all optional courses. Students can freely choose their optional subjects through the Student Portal. Please consider the fact that “optional courses” are just those courses which are not compulsory for any semester of the study programme. Optional courses can also be attended at other Faculties/Universities.

Which are the prerequisites in order to pass to the study years exceeding the first?
  • for the 2nd year: 30 CP + certificate at level A2 of the third language
  • for the 3rd year: 70 CP + certificate at level B1 of the third language
Students which don't have the prerequisites have to subscribe again to the same study year.

When do I have to carry out the internship?
The internship can be done starting from the end of the lecture period of the second study year.

How long must the internship be?
The duration of the internships depends on the study plan of each degree course:
  • Bachelor in Agricultural and Agro-Environmental Sciences (starting from the academic year 2012/2013): 5 credits = 125 hours (corresponding to approximately 3 weeks or 16 working days)
  • Bachelor in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering (starting from the academic year 2011/2012): 6 credits = 150 hours (corresponding to approximately 4 weeks or 19 working days)
Students are free to choose their work placement.


3. The Master programmes

  • 3.1. Master in Fruit Science

Until when can I pre-enrol for the Master programme?
It is possible to pre-enrol for the Master programme until 20th August 2012.

How do I pre-enrol for the Master programme? 
Pre-enrolment must be effected online. It is necessary to hand in the filled out an signed pre-enrolment form, together with all the requested documents, in the Student Secretariat. Only documents delivered by the due date and containing exclusively original signatures shall be accepted. The pre-enrolment documents can also be send by post. ATTENTION: The date of the postmark will not be taken into consideration.    

Which is the selection procedure?
Potential candidates who have pre-enrolled shall be assessed for admission based on academic qualifications and interview in order to ascertain the candidate’s cultural and attitudinal suitability.The rank lists are created following the criteria as below:
  • max 50 points for the university certificate score
  • max 50 points for the interview

Which are the language prerequisites that have to be fullfilled?
Lectures in this MSc program will be conducted in English. Therefore, the Course Committee shall determine the candidate’s level of knowledge of the language. Students shall have the possibility to attend pre-MSc language courses offered by the Language Centre of the Free University of Bolzano in order to reach the required level of competence.

Until when can I officially enrol?
Enrolment will be possible until 15th October 2012.

When does the lecture period begin?
The lecture period starts from 1st October 2012.

What is the language used in the lectures?
The language used in teaching is English. Optional courses can be offered in Italian or German.
