Student Jobs – otherwise known as “the 150-hour jobs”So what are these “150-hour jobs”?
The 1991 law that governs the right to study allows Italian universities to give contracts to students for part-time work.These contracts cannot exceed 150 jobs in one year.
The Free University of Bozen/Bolzano also offers students these contracts every year, based on the needs of the offices and services of the University.
What jobs can be done in these “150-hour jobs”?
Work to be undertaken refers to one of the following areas:
a) general activities:
- of an administrative nature that is undertaken in various University offices;
- to help with general supervision during the Library’s opening hours;
- support and assistance to disabled students;
- to provide assistance in the Faculty of Design and Art’s workshops;
- to provide support for projects (data collection, interviews, internet research, etc.);
- to help with the organisation of specific projects (f. e. JuniorUni or “German Academic Association for Business Research” (VHB);
- to provide support for the Language Study Unit (data collection, transcription work, etc.);
b) specific work for student advisors:
in the 2011/2012 academic year the University’s Advisory Service and Press, Communication and Marketing Office will be needing students to assist in the numerous activities organised by the two departments.
These activities are promotion events that aim to market the university in Italy and abroad. The events in question concern mainly:
- information and advice for prospective students;
- visits to secondary schools in the region, other Italian regions and abroad to present the courses that can be followed at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano;
- helping with events for the public (e.g. the annual Open Day);
- taking part in higher education fairs for students in Italy and abroad;
- administrative work needed to help with the organisation of the events listed above.
c) specific work for tutors – Faculty of Computer Science:
in the 2011/2012 academic year the Faculty of Computer Science at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano will be needing students enrolled in their Bachelor and Master degree courses to advise and assist other students in their studies.
Specifically, these students would have to provide advisory sessions to give enrolled students information about their undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
d) specific work as language tutors:
in the 2011/2012 academic year the University’s Language Centre will be needing students to assist prospective students and freshers in language learning and improving their language skills and to help them getting used to the trilingual student life.
Work undertaken concern mainly the following areas:
- language advising – The language advising will be supervised by a professional language coordinator and comprises the assistance in language placement of the candidate, the analysis of his/her language biography, the identification of specific learning needs and the conclusion of a learning agreement;
- advising and assistance during the language courses in Summer (August and September) – Language tutors will participate actively in the cultural fringe events and, on occasion, inform about single degree courses;
- advising and assistance at the beginning of studies – Language tutors will be helping freshers with the beginning of their trilingual studies and advise them about the various possibilities to learn languages at the FUB.
e) specific work as Erasmus tutors:
in the 2011/12 academic year the International Relations Office will be needing students to assist and accompany the incoming and outgoing students participating in the International programs.
These activities mainly concern:
- participation at the welcome and orientation sessions for the incoming students at the beginning of the academic year and at the beginning of the second semester;
- accompaniment of the incoming students during their exchange period, especially during the first two weeks: visiting the university and the city, assistance in bureaucratic issues (i.e. residence permit), giving useful advises for the student life etc.;
- assistance in the preparation of the outgoing students;
- administrative work for the International Relations Office.
Students who wish to apply for one of these positions should indicate in their application which of the areas/activities listed above (max. 3 areas/activities) they would prefer to undertake.
The University reserves the right, however, to assign students to any of the administrative offices that they have requested.Students are not able to undertake any work that can be considered as teaching, that is connected to exams or that involves taking on administrative responsibilities.
How can I apply for one of these “150-hour jobs”?
The Personnel Office for Administrative and Technical Staff publishes the job advert every year and informs all students of this fact via email.

Any student can apply as long as they have the pre-requisites listed in the advert.

When you fill in this form, you can state one or more preferences from the list of jobs above.
How are the jobs given out?
The jobs are handed out following a ranklist that is made following a set of criteria based on your university career, and if there are students with the same points, on your financial situation. If you have asked to be one of the “student advisors” or “student tutors” at the Faculty of Computer Science, you will also have to have an interview.
