In this lecture, we will explore the role of creativity when designingwith data, by illustrating the diverse approaches one can take in data-enableddesign. The speaker’s starting point is from the perspective of engineeringdesign, in relation to relevant fields, such as computer science. So far, thetendency is to use data for validation purposes, but a world of opportunitiesawaits when we start considering data as creative material. This poses then thequestion: how can data be integrated in the design process? And which one comesfirst, data to inspire the design process, or designing solutions thatincorporate data? Relying on ongoing case studies with a multinationalautomobile manufacturer working in the area of data-enabled design, the speakerwill share a number of best practices and lessons learned.
