This laboratory is used for isotopic ratio analysis (carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur). There is a gas chromatograph used for greenhouse gas measurements (carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide). The main activities are primarily related to sample preparation (weighing and preparation of samples to be analysed with an isotopic ratio mass spectrometer).
All research groups, PhD students and external users can access the lab to analyse the isotopic ratio of different materials such as solids, liquids and gases.
The laboratory contains a CF-IRMS (Continuous Flow-Isotopic Ratio Mass Spectrometer) and other analytical instruments for sample pretreatment prior to isotopic ratio analysis. These instruments are a Flash Combustion Elemental Analyser, a Thermal Conversion Elemental Analyser, a Gas-Bench and a Combustion Gas-Chromatograph. For sample preparation (weighing), there is also an analytical scale. There is also a Gas Chromatograph with 3 different detectors (FID, ECD and TCD) for Greenhouse Gas determination (carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide).
