Mini-Factory Laboratory


This laboratory is used by the research group IEA (Industrial Engineering and Automation) for research on flexible and agile production systems; on high performance systems in robotics; on cyber-physical systems for Industry 4.0 and research in 3D printing and additive manufacturing. The lab is also used to show new technologies to students and other stakeholders.

Research Focus

The main research focus is on Industry 4.0, Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics as well as Additive Manufacturing.

Main Instrumentation

The laboratory contains the following main instruments/machines:


  • 1 Adept Quattro (parallel robot);
  • 1 Adept i600 Cobra (scara robot);
  • 1 ABB IRB 120 (six axes robot);
  • 1 Universal Robot UR3 (lightweight robot);
  • Standard and flexible robot grippers.


Assembly Systems

  • 4 assembly workbenches Bosch Rexroth
  • 2 electric industrial screwers Weber
  • 1 knee lever press
  • 1 system for flexible feeding Flexbowl
  • 1 Kanban rack
  • 2 conveyors
  • 1 RFID-gate
  • 2 RFID scanner
  • 2 RFID handhelds
  • 1 RFID printer


Additive Manufacturing

  • 1 3D printer - Fusion Deposition Modeling, 3ntr A2v2 (working volume 620x350x490 mm, 3 extruders);
  • 1 3D scanner ATOS Core, GOM.

Industrial Plants

  • 1 Smart Touch Table for simulation of Industry 4.0 construction processes;
  • Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset and Touch Controller;
  • High Performance PC System for Virtual Reality;
  • FlexSim 3D simulation software for production and logistics;
  • VSF Visual Shop Floor software for smart production;
  • CANIAS ERP and Manufacturing Execution Software.
