unibz is a member of the SUNRISE Alliance, a strategic network that brings together nine smaller European universities in non-metropolitan regions. The aim is to promote innovative and sustainable development at the regional level, with a clear focus on STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
The alliance is committed to strengthening the potential of universities rooted in regions away from large urban centres. Together, they want to tackle challenges such as attracting students, retaining skilled personnel and strengthening the local economy.
SUNRISE aims to create a dynamic network of flexible and efficient universities that provides positive impetus for students, academic staff, local communities and innovation ecosystems. The partner universities pool their expertise, infrastructure and best practices, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary synergies, multilingualism and international cooperation.
"For the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, cooperation with other European universities is essential for growth and strengthening ties with the region"
President Prof. Ulrike Tappeiner
"Thanks to our experience with multilingualism and international cooperation, we are in a position to make a valuable contribution"
Rector Prof. Alex Weissensteiner
The alliance comprises a total of 62,500 students, 49 faculties, 4,808 researchers and over 500 Erasmus+/Horizon projects. Together, they develop
