Ripensare gli spazi educativi con l’aiuto della Natura
EDENlab della Libera Università di Bolzano lancia EDENspaces, il primo master in Italia dedicato alla progettazione di “Paesaggi educanti”.
Sustainability is a core guiding principle of our university. As a multilingual and internationally oriented university located in the heart of the Alpine region, we see it as our responsibility to actively contribute to sustainable development - through research, teaching, campus operations, and societal engagement.
Within the framework of our Sustainability Action Plan 2022–2025, the university has set ambitious goals: to reduce energy consumption, use resources more efficiently, and gradually make all campuses more climate-friendly. The university is also an active member of the RUS network (Rete delle Università per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile) and a founding member of the South Tyrol Alliance for Research in Sustainability.
Our activities are aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and structured into five key areas:
Each of these areas is supported by an interdisciplinary working group coordinated by the university’s Sustainability Committee. The Committee is also responsible for producing the annual Sustainability Report (coming soon) and is advised by the Competence Centre for Sustainability.
Numerous study programmes and research initiatives at unibz address sustainability from economic, technical, social, and design perspectives. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to help shape this transformation through innovative projects, public events, creative teaching formats, and new ideas for a climate-friendly and socially just future.

To effectively integrate sustainability across all aspects of university life, unibz organises its efforts into five strategic action fields: Studies, Research, Interaction with Society, Operations, and Organizational Culture. These areas reflect the university’s holistic vision linking scientific work, curriculum development, outreach, and internal processes. Each area is supported by an interdisciplinary working group, coordinated by the Sustainability Committee.
Reporting is a relatively new component of this structure. With the introduction of the Sustainability Action Plan 2022–2025, unibz has begun to document and evaluate its sustainability efforts. The annual Sustainability Report aims to increase transparency, guide improvements, and strengthen the university’s accountability toward its sustainability goals.
