Examining Accessible Tourism: Assessing on identities and leisure constraints for social sustainability
Abstract:
Building on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Sustainable Development Goals highlight the urge for social inclusion in manifold respects. The fact that the social component of sustainable development is still broadly neglected in economy, however, contributes to the ongoing social exclusion of people with disability. To foster their inclusion in leisure and travelling, the accessible tourism approach describes collaborative processes towards thorough travel experiences along entire tourism value chains. Whereas existing literature underpins this urge for stakeholder collaboration, research on identities related to it is scarce. Via a series of investigations the urge for collaborative identities where all stakeholders share a common sense for the project target is pivotal for fostering social sustainability transformations in tourism. Besides manifold managerial implications, specialties in working with people with disability in science are highlighted.
