As part of the SUNRISE One Alliance, One Forest initiative, students and staff from all nine SUNRISE universities will take part in a shared symbolic journey through their local forests. While each walk takes place in a different location, all distances covered will be combined on a shared digital map, allowing participants to “walk across Europe together – through its forests.”

The unibz journey will take place on Saturday, 12 September 2026.

Our route follows the beautiful and accessible Sigmund Freud Promenade on the Ritten/Renon plateau, offering participants the chance to connect with one another and with nature, learn more about South Tyrol’s forests and the research carried out by unibz in this field, and discover the activities of the SUNRISE Alliance.

The walk begins at the upper station of the Ritten cable car in Soprabolzano/Oberbozen and continues through Lichtenstern to Collalbo/Klobenstein. Along the route, participants will stop at three locations featuring short activities and information sessions. Departure is scheduled between 9:30 and 9:50 a.m from Soprabolzano/Oberbozen.

The Sigmund Freud Promenade is an easy and enjoyable walk of 7.3 km at an altitude of approximately 1,200 metres, with a total elevation change of about 125 metres. Participants will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Dolomites throughout the journey.

But that's not all!

• A virtual competition with the other SUNRISE universities – the university whose participants collectively record the highest number of steps will win.
• An online quiz along the route.
• A photo contest
• Prizes and surprises for the winners.

The forest becomes a shared European space—a place for reflection, dialogue, wellbeing, and connection with nature.

At the end of the journey, around 12:00 noon, winners of the quiz and photo contest will be announced, and all participants will be invited to enjoy a light refreshments together.
