Language-Aware Teaching / Academic and Disciplinary Language

Semester 1 · 83005 · University course for initial training of secondary school teachers in the German language - 60CP · 2CP · DE

Subject-specific teaching is always, in part, language teaching: subject-specific learning takes place through spoken and written language, through tasks, explanations, text types, concepts, representations, arguments and reflection. This course introduces the fundamentals, concepts and didactic methods of language-aware subject-specific teaching. The focus is on the question of how subject-specific learning can be made linguistically accessible without lowering academic standards.

Particular attention is paid to multilingual learning groups, the language of education, technical language, scaffolding, task analysis, text work, vocabulary work, oral interaction and the planning of language-sensitive teaching sequences across different subjects.
