Short bio

Oswald Lanz is a full professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (unibz) and Head PI of the Visual Computing Lab. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a degree in Mathematics from the University of Trento. Prior to joining unibz, he was a researcher and head of research unit at FBK Trento. In 2021 he was appointed as an endowed professor for computer vision implementing the collaboration between unibz and Covision Lab, a Computer Vision & AI technology hub located in Brixen-Bressanone. Since 2025, he is the coordinator of the board of professors of the PhD in Computer Science program. He was recipient of Amazon AWS Machine Learning Research Awards in 2020, ACM Multimedia 2015 Best Paper award and Best Student Paper award at ICIAP in 2007, Co-Director of the ELIAS-ELLIS-VISMAC Winter School 2025 and General Co-Chair of ICIAP 2019. He is inventor of international patents on people detection and tracking in video streams.
