Which spot on campus do you like best?

Since I am an engineering student and the Faculty of Engineering happens to be in the NOI Techpark, I spend most of my time there! It’s a sleek, minimalist space, but my absolute favourite spot is the second-floor balcony. From there, you can look out over the entire bustling campus, and there’s a great coffee machine nearby that keeps us going between lectures (plus, we’re getting snack vending machines soon!).

When I go to the main campus downtown, the university library is my favourite spot. It’s undoubtedly the best library in the area; during exam season, it becomes the liveliest and busiest place, and the collective buzz of the students gives you a huge motivation boost. When I just want to relax, the Unibar is the perfect place to grab a drink, meet up with friends, and talk about anything other than exams.

What are your tips for the city?

If we’re talking exclusively about the city of Bolzano, there’s nothing better than relaxing in the Talvera Parks, enjoying the sun, or exploring Griesplatz. There’s also a beautiful hiking and biking trail that runs right along the mountain from Gries to the Bolzano hospital—the view is breathtaking. For dining and shopping away from the big tourist crowds, the lively areas along Drususallee and Reschenstraße are fantastic. And of course, thanks to its excellent local beer (I don't drink myself, but my friends and buddies love it), the great food, and the lively atmosphere, the “Batzen” is an absolute must for a great night out.

Which aspects of local culture and traditions are particularly close to your heart?

I love all the traditional local festivals, especially the street markets! Since I live in Auer (Ora), I have a special fondness for our annual St. Mark’s Market on April 25. It’s been around for ages, and the entire village centre fills up with over 200 stalls, local delicacies, and a traditional morning with pretzels and wheat beer. It starts early in the morning, when everyone is on the hunt for rare treasures and simply enjoying the convivial atmosphere.

Auer also hosts the incredible Altmauerfest at the start of summer, when the historic alleys and old stone walls come to life with music and wine culture. I also love the cosy South Tyrolean fall tradition of Törggelen, and it’s lovely to see everyone proudly dressed in traditional dirndls at regional festivals.
