Teaching format
Lectures and exercises; self-study using lecture videos, contact hours for learning control and consolidation of material including exercises

Educational objectives
For the module The course teaches the fundamentals of agricultural and environmental economics and policy. In addition to the lectures, accompanying exercises will repeat and deepen the lecture content. In collaboration with the South Tyrolean Farmer Association (SBB) a study project will be offered. The groupwork will help students to transfer theoretical knowledge to practical skills. External speakers may speak on selected topics that are of particular relevance to the South Tyrolean agriculture, thus providing additional perspectives to the subject area. The course aim is the transfer of general research-based knowledge, regulations and methods. For the module module Agricultural, Environmental and Food Law: Disciplinary skills Knowledge and understanding of legal sources and of the main notions and institutions of agrifood law, with specific reference to agrarian property and its limits, the notion of agricultural enterprise and agricultural holding, agrarian contracts, Common Agricultural Policy and Common Organization of Markets, food law (including food safety, quality, information, environmental policy). Ability to apply knowledge and skills to the functions of the main notions and rules analysed and to the reasons justifying them; ability to analyse the main norms in the subject matter. Transversal /soft skills Making judgments by processing information, as well by collecting and interpreting norms and notions. Communication skills of presentation of the concepts learned (topics and issues related to the agri-food sector) with a vocabulary that is precise, appropriate, and specific to the subjects. Learning skills aimed at increasing the personal knowledge acquired during the course, also through scientific workshops organized during classes.

Additional educational objectives and learning outcomes
The course teaches the basics of agricultural economics and policy. Selected content is repeated and deepened in a number of exercises accompanying the lectures. The aim of the course is to teach general science-based content, legislation and methods.

Assessment
The performance assessment of course participants consists of a final written examination (100 % of the overall grade, 50 % Module 1 and 50 % Module 2). The written examination lasts up to 240 minutes (up to 120 minutes per module) and comprises 5-10 examination questions per module.

Evaluation criteria
The written examination assesses the clarity of the answers, the ability to synthesise, judgement and the ability to make references to the topics covered.

Further information
In the academic year 2025/26, the Agricultural Economics and Politics module will be offered as a pilot project in hybrid mode: 50 hours of self-study using lecture videos and 10 hours of contact course to deepen the learning material or to check learning progress
