Didactics of Italian Literature and its textual and stylistic Traditions

The lectures are intended to offer insights into both the methods and content of the discipline, as well as professional skills (e.g. describing one's work in scientific and academic terms, in terms of awareness of one's knowledge and abilities).

The lectures are intended to offer opportunities to reflect on the work of the teacher from the concrete experience of each course participant, in the light of some theoretical principles discussed in recent studies on the discipline.
Issues relating to the teaching of literature in schools, and in particular in secondary schools, will then be touched upon, with confrontation and open discussion, in an attempt to give an organic form to one's own experience. Even if empirical research in the field of teaching Italian literature is still in its infancy, some working methods close to research (analysis, discussion and description) can also be applied to reflection on one's own classroom activity.

Course Topics
The main topics for reflection will include, for example: School and literature - the role of the teacher, the place of literature in school and education, official guidelines; the school of skills Literature at school - what is taught at school and why (literature and canon); the opening of the canon; themes, genres - textbooks and manuals (analysis, commentary, exercises, paraphrase, 'theme') - digital tools - methods of analysis and related disciplines (linguistic analysis, philology, other literatures...) Classroom work - didactic architectures and strategies; planning; the logic of competences; evaluation; the student's space

Teaching format
Lectures, individual reflection activities, discussion, and open exchange.

Educational objectives
Disciplinary objectives To get to know some theoretical principles useful for framing didactic work on literature in the context of the Italian school. To acquire awareness of one's work as a teacher and systematise knowledge and experience already gained in classroom work. Disciplinary skills The participant has acquired knowledge and awareness of the most live issues in the didactics of literature. Knowledge and understanding The participant is familiar with the main theoretical categories of literature teaching, its principles, methods and content. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding The participant is able to critically frame issues relating to the didactics of literature, with reference to his/her role as a teacher, in order to interpret and direct his/her work in the classroom.

Additional educational objectives and learning outcomes
Transversal skills Independent judgement The course participant is able to independently assess the theoretical principles, tools and methods of the discipline best suited to a specific educational context; is able to interpret and define their work with awareness (including its strengths); and is able to offer innovative and personal solutions and ideas. Communication skills The student is able to communicate their experiences, views and assessments with precision. Learning skills The student has developed an awareness of the issues and tools involved in the teaching of literature.

Assessment
Written examination with closed questions and/or short open-ended questions and/or prompts for a brief reflection.

Evaluation criteria
For the examination, students are required to demonstrate knowledge of the course content covered in class, the assigned bibliography, and the materials provided for individual study (in accordance with the Regulations, Art. 9, paragraph 1). In the assessment of the written exam, consideration is given to the relevance and accuracy of each response to the question asked; the ability to develop the topic in depth; the ability to reflect critically on one’s own work and to apply knowledge to practical situations; and clarity of expression, as well as lexical and grammatical appropriateness.
