Elements of local history and geography for kindergardens and primary schools in the Ladin valleys (lab.)

The laboratory course introduces and explains selected places and institutions that are relevant to teaching local history and geography (“Heimatkunde”) in kindergartens and primary schools in the Ladin valleys. These sites and institutions are also visited as part of a field trip.

- The concept of “Heimatkunde” in the context of the Ladin valleys - Heimatkunde in kindergarten and primary school - The Museum Ladin “Ciastel de Tor” and its collections - Val di Murins and the historical production of grain and bread in the Ladin valleys - Didactic applications

Educational objectives
Students acquire basic knowledge of the local history and geography of Ladinia and develop the skills to present and convey this knowledge in an age-appropriate and context-oriented way in kindergarten and primary school. They learn to use regional characteristics, cultural identity, and local environments as educational resources and to develop appropriate teaching methods and materials. In addition, they explore the concept of “Heimat” as an individual and socially shaped relationship to a familiar living environment and reflect on its significance for identity, belonging, and cultural education. Expected learning outcomes Knowledge and Understanding: Students should acquire basic knowledge of the local history, geography, and cultural identity of Ladinia and understand the significance of the concept of home for identity and belonging. Applying Knowledge and Understanding: Students should be able to apply their acquired knowledge to prepare regional and cultural content in an age-appropriate and context-oriented way for kindergarten and primary school. Judgement: Students should reflect on the significance of regional characteristics, local environments, and the concept of home for educational practice and be able to assess their educational relevance. Communication: Students should be able to communicate key aspects of the local history, geography, and culture of Ladinia in an audience-appropriate manner and engage in professional discussions on issues related to home, identity, and cultural education. Learning Strategies: Students should become familiar with, select, and be able to use appropriate methods and materials for independently exploring local and cultural content and for developing their own educational activities.
