The end is the beginning

In a circular economy the so called "end of life cycle" is not the end but actually the beginning of something new.

Inside the Master program of Eco-Social Design prof. Aart von Bezooijen organized during this semester’s design and production course the project “The end is the beginning”. “We focused on the (final) stages of collections, deconstruction and recycling as starting points for individual student projects, enjoying our explorative journey of (un)making the world as we know it”, says von Bezooijen.

The final products are now shown in a temporary summer exhibition at the BITZ Fablab in Bozen-Bolzano. The window exhibition is displaying ideas on refurbished non-stick pans, collaborations with local crafts, materials made of disposed masks, reuse of bicycle tubes, wood-based water filtering, fermentation told by microbes, reconsidering manufacturing as birth and documented field work at the local vineyards. And since the exhibition is a window display that can be seen from outside, the opening times are 24/7.

With contributions by students Júlia Farrio Duran, Silvia Cohn, Henri Kirsch, Francesco Ferrero, Andrea Righetto, Carola Kurz, Beatrice Citterio and Elisabeth Maldari.
