Hans Leo Höger

Short bio

Hans Leo Höger (Ph.D.) is tenured professor for Theory and History of Design and Communication (CEAR-08/D Design - ex ICAR/13). Besides his academic activities he has been working as consultant of strategy, research and communication for companies and design offices, focusing on design topics in the context of economics, culture and society. Clients include Siemens, Olivetti, Swiss Re, Poste Italiane, Airport Cologne, Michele De Lucchi, intégral Ruedi Baur et associés, Sergio Calatroni Artroom. He has been appointed Commissioner of the German participation at XIXth Milan Triennale (‘Identity and Differences: The Future of Urban Environments’) and was responsible for the program ‘Attitudes for the New Millennium' within the IDCA conference in Aspen/Colorado (USA) dedicated to 'Gestaltung: German Design'.

Hans Leo Höger has had teaching assignments, before his professorship in Bozen I Bolzano, at: Zurich University of the Arts, City College of New York, Bocconi University (Milan), Saar University of the Arts (Saarbrücken), University of Applied Arts Würzburg, Istituto Europeo di Design (Milan), Kent Stat University (Ohio), École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts (Lyon). As author and researcher he investigates topics of design in relation to business, culture and society. His books and texts have been published by Lars Müller, Birkhäuser, DVA, Hatje Cantz, Wasmuth, Pyramid Éditions, DuMont, Vieweg, Bozen I Bolzano University Press, Bruno Mondadori, Edition Axel Menges, Abitare Segesta, Corraini, Springer, Allemandi and by magazines like domus, Abitare, Interni, form, DIID, Design Report.
