Die Lehrveranstaltung „Aktuelle Trends und Themen im Tourismusmanagement“ (31013) vermittelt Konzepte und Techniken zur Analyse wirtschaftlicher und nicht-wirtschaftlicher Faktoren, um aktuelle Trends, Probleme und Herausforderungen des Tourismus zu bewältigen. Folgende Themen werden behandelt:

- Regenerativer und transformativer Tourismus
- Künstliche Intelligenz am Beispiel neuronaler Netzwerke im Tourismus
- Imagebildung für Reiseziele
- Netzwerkanalytische Frameworks im Tourismus
- Klimawandel und Mobilitätsverhalten im Tourismus

Themen der Lehrveranstaltung
The course deals with theoretical concepts as well as scientific frameworks and methods for analysing, evaluating and managing current tourism trends. The following list of topics is indicative. Further relevant topics can be added ( until the start of the course). Frameworks of regenerative and transformative tourism; Lifestyle entrepreneurship; Network analytical frameworks in tourism; Artificial Intelligence in tourism exemplified with Artificial Neural Networks; Destination image & segmentation; Asymmetric effects of guest satisfaction; Tourism benchmarking; the Ethics of tourism sustainabiltiy; Climate change and tourism. The frameworks, methods and theories discussed are critically reflected upon and their limitations are highlighted. Notably, the course also adresses practical tourism perspectives through the elaboration of case studies with the industry. By so doing, mobility trends, demographic trends and labour market trends (shortages, grievances and justice issues) as well as the usage of artificial intelligence methods in tourism will be covered.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILO) ILO 1: WISSEN UND VERSTEHEN ILO 1.1 Der/Die Studierende erwirbt spezifische Kompetenzen und Fähigkeiten, um Managementfragen aus der Perspektive der Führung von Tourismusunternehmen, der Entwicklung und Förderung von Tourismusdestinationen sowie der Planung und des Managements von integrierten Tourismussystemen und einzelnen Dienstleistungen in strategischer, organisatorischer und administrativer Hinsicht mit einer internationalen und interkulturellen Perspektive zu behandeln. ILO 1.2 Der/Die Studierende erwirbt die Fähigkeit, die durch Tourismus induzierten Umwelt-, als auch gesellschaftlichen Probleme zu erfassen, zu analysieren und deren Interdependenzen und Kontexte zu verstehen, indem Theorien und Methoden angewendet und Erklärungsansätze entwickelt werden. ILO 2. FÄHIGKEIT, WISSEN UND VERSTEHEN ANZUWENDEN ILO 2.1 Der/Die Studierende erwirbt die Fähigkeit, die für den Tourismussektor charakteristischen Probleme zu verstehen und zu analysieren, indem er Theorien und ILO Modelle anwendet und geeignete Instrumente für das Management von Tourismusunternehmen einsetzt. ILO 2.2 Der/Die Studierende erwirbt die Fähigkeit, Modelle zur Analyse des Tourismusmarktes anzuwenden. ILO 2.3 Der/Die Studierende erwirbt die Beherrschung der Verwaltung der Humanressourcen und die Fähigkeit, der Unternehmenskultur den richtigen Stellenwert einzuräumen. ILO 2.4 Der kontextuale, multidisziplinäre Ansatz befähigt Studierende, betriebliche, sektorale, ökonomische und gesellschaftliche Anforderungen und Umweltprobleme in Entscheidungsprozesse in holistischer Art zu berücksichtigen. ILO 2.5 Wissensanwendungsbereiche umfassen sowohl Mikro– und Meso-, als auch Makroebenen, und inkludieren den Erwerb von Fähigkeiten, die sowohl in der Politikberatung als auch in Strategieentwicklung von Unternehmen gefragt sind. ILO 2.6 Hinzu kommen Kompetenzen, die ihre Fundierung in der Verhaltensökonomie, Entscheidungstheorie und in der Konsumentenverhaltensforschung haben, Kompetenzen, die insbesondere in der empirischen Analyse, als auch in ex-ante Prognosen und Szenarien im Rahmen von zukunftsgerichteten Fragestellungen von großer Bedeutung sind. ILO 2.7 Entwickelte Fähigkeiten können sowohl im regionalen, nationalen und internationalen Kontexten angewendet werden. ILO 2.8 Die Kompetenzentwicklung und -förderung beinhaltet auch die Fähigkeit, komplexe, gesellschaftlich relevante Fragestellungen und Ergebnisse präzise und kohärent darstellen zu können, jedoch in verständlicher Art und Weise und zielgruppenorientiert. ILO 3: URTEILEN ILO 3.1 Die Fähigkeit zu erwerben, empirische Modelle und Erkenntnisse in der Untersuchung von Tourismusunternehmen, Verbänden, Konsortien und Reisezielen miteinander zu vergleichen. ILO 4: KOMMUNIKATIONSFÄHIGKEIT ILO 4.1 Der/Die Absolvent/in des Masters wird imstande sein, durch den Gebrauch verschiedener Fachsprachen, je nachdem, um welchen Empfänger und um welche kommunikativen und didaktischen Absichten es sich dabei handelt, die spezifischen Inhalte der einzelnen Bereiche effizient mündlich und schriftlich zu kommunizieren und die Auswirkungen seiner/ihrer Kommunikation zu beurteilen. Die schriftlichen und mündlichen Fähigkeiten werden insbesondere in jenen Bildungstätigkeiten entwickelt, die zur Vorbereitung der Masterabschlussarbeit dienen, bei der Diskussion von Unternehmensfällen und in den interaktiven Vorlesungen, welche Gruppendiskussionen sowie einen Vergleich der individuellen Analysen vorsehen. ILO 5: LERNFÄHIGKEIT ILO 5.1 Thematische Verbindungen zu ermitteln und Beziehungen zwischen verschiedenen Fällen und Analysekontexten herzustellen. ILO 5.2 Ein neues Problem systematisch darzustellen und geeignete Taxonomien zu erzeugen. ILO 5.3 Allgemeine Modelle ausgehend von den untersuchten Phänomenen zu entwickeln.

Bildungsziele und erwartete Lernergebnisse (zus. Informationen)
The aim of the course is to provide students with concepts, models and techniques to analyse economic and non-economic factors necessary to identify, understand and evaluate current trends and issues affecting the tourism sector. The course applies management and marketing theories with the aim to evaluate complex business problems and to formulate sustainable strategies for tourism businesses and destinations to face contemporary issues and take advantage of the latest trends. Knowledge and understanding: • of concepts, models and techniques to exploit market opportunities in tourism according to latest trends • of current trends and issues in the development of sustainable tourism • of current and new formats relevant for sustainable competitiveness of tourism businesses and destinations Applying knowledge and understanding: • Ability to recognize the major current issues and latest trends shaping the tourism sector. • Ability to apply theories and models to formulate strategies for tourism businesses and destinations to face current issues and take advantage of the latest trends. • Ability to recognize and apply effective strategies, tools and practices to establish collaboration among tourism stakeholders for the development of smart tourism. Making judgments: • Acquire the ability to gather and interpret relevant data to forecast change in the global tourism environment and to make judgments for successful strategies • Making judgments on the competitiveness of tourism destinations and firms in a dynamic environment • Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity for formulating decisions about the impact of global environmental and digital factors on the international tourism market and the market opportunities that may arise. Communication skills: • Communication skills to present in a consistent and convincing way the development of competitive and sustainable strategies for tourism firms and destinations • Communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions related to the identification and exploitation of market opportunities in tourism. Learning skills: • Ability to establish interdisciplinary understanding and links among the heterogeneous required readings about management and marketing trends and issues in an autonomous and independent way • Ability to apply a historical approach to contextualize, interpret and forecast the (future) evolution of the tourism landscape.

Art der Prüfung
Option 1: One presentation (50%); final written exam (50%). The presentation requires students to work in groups to work on a chosen case study both in theoretical and methodological terms. Beside the presentation, students are required to submit a printed copy of the slides with comments in a report format. The final written exam consists of open questions and one essay-type question. These questions aim to evaluate the students’ understanding of theoretical concepts and their ability to use and critically reflect these concepts for analysing and explaining current issues and trends in tourism management. All ILOs are assessed (ILO 1-5) The final written exam will last 90 minutes. Option 2: Final written exam (100%). The final written exam consists of open questions and one essay-type question. These questions aim to evaluate the students’ understanding of theoretical concepts and their ability to use and critically reflect these concepts for analysing and explaining current issues and trends in tourism management. All ILOs are assessed (ILO 1-5) The final written exam will last 120 minutes
