Podcasts have, in a short space of time, become one of the most vibrant platforms for contemporary storytelling. We listen to them to stay informed, to be entertained, to explore topics in greater depth, and to gain an insight into other people’s lives. They offer an extremely free yet highly demanding narrative space: a place where storytelling meets the spoken word, the pace of listening, editing, and the soundscape.
(Almost) a new form of narrative pact.
Throughout the day, we will focus in particular on the podcast as a tool for portraying reality. We will begin with an overview of the world of podcasting today: the trends, the niches, the formats, and the narrative possibilities this medium offers. We will then ask ourselves what truly makes an idea promising and what tools to use to gauge in advance the effectiveness of an intuition, an idea, a story.
We will then tackle a central issue: what it means to work with ‘true stories’. Telling reality does not mean merely recording it passively, but putting the tools of storytelling at its service, without betraying it. We will reflect on the relationship between reality and realism, on how facts can become a narrative, and on how to construct a voice, a structure and a point of view capable of conveying complexity, presence and meaning.
The theoretical part will be accompanied (and interwoven) with a practical component: participants will work in groups to develop a podcast format idea, putting the tools explored during the seminar to the test.
