- Development of receptive skills through the exposure to and analysis of various types of written and spoken discourse typical in Computer Science and development of grammatical and lexical range and accuracy so that communication is fluent and spontaneous.

• Academic and professional communication in English: features of academic and professional discourse in Computer Science, Digital Business, and related disciplines. • Reading and analysing specialised texts: comprehension and critical analysis of authentic written materials from the fields of Computer Science, Digital Business, and related disciplines, with attention to genre conventions, rhetorical structure, and the communication of technical information. • Academic and professional writing: production of clear, coherent, and well-structured subject-specific texts based on authentic sources, including synthesising information, summarising, and developing evidence-based arguments using appropriate academic and professional conventions. • Oral communication and presentation skills: development of spoken interaction and production through presentations, discussions, and other communicative tasks relevant to academic and professional contexts in Computer Science, and Digital Business, with particular emphasis on clarity, organisation, and audience engagement. • Language development: consolidation and expansion of grammar, vocabulary, phraseology, and specialised terminology .

Obiettivi formativi
The course belongs to the type "per la conoscenza di almeno una lingua straniera - lingua straniera ". The aim of this course is to provide students with some of the language skills required to take the BSc in Informatics and Management of Digital Business course in English. The course will focus on language acquisition and communication skills, therefore students are expected to actively participate in classroom discussion and activities throughout the duration of the course. The course will also focus on the use of the English language in different contexts, with an emphasis on usage in professional and academic contexts. To this end, the course aims to provide some of the language skills that will be useful to students pursuing degree courses in English and that will help them take examinations in English. Specific learning objectives include the following - written skills: improve specific sets of skills, text production and language through the practice of discipline-specific academic discourse; - oral skills: improve oral interaction and production through the practice of effective presentations in academic and professional contexts as well as other discipline-specific oral activities; - receptive skills: develop receptive skills through exposure to and analysis of various types of written and oral discourse typical of computing and management; develop grammatical range and accuracy and specific lexicon so that communication is fluent and spontaneous. Knowledge and understanding: • D1.19 - Have a professional knowledge of English. Applying knowledge and understanding: • D2.18 - Know how to communicate with the client in written and oral form on a professional level in English. Communication skills • D4.1 - Be able to use English to use appropriate technical terminology and communication style. Learning skills • D5.1 - Learning ability to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy.

Modalità d'esame
This is a pass/fail exam. There are two components to the exam: the Written exam and the Portfolio + Oral. Both components of the exam must be passed to pass the entire exam. A pass is at least 60% overall in the Written exam and at least 60% overall in the Portfolio + Oral component. Students must have submitted the Portfolio in order to be admitted to the Oral exam given the two elements are integral parts of the same component of the exam. These assessment means are valid for both attending and non-attending students 1. Written examination: a writing task (300–350 words) based on a subject-specific text related to the themes addressed during the course. The task will assess students' ability to comprehend, synthesise, and critically discuss specialised content using appropriate academic language and conventions. The examination will also include grammar and vocabulary exercises designed to assess students' command of the linguistic structures and specialised terminology covered during the course. 2. Portfolio+Oral: a portfolio of writing tasks based on authentic materials related to the topics covered during the course. Oral examination: speaking tasks designed to assess students' ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate an advanced (C1) level of spoken production and presentation skills.

Criteri di valutazione
This is a pass/fail exam. Written exam: 50%; Portfolio + Oral (15% + 35%) Further, more specific details will be provided during the course and online on the TEAM platform for this course. Individual assessment.
