As a result of library subscriptions and other deals mainly supported by the national consortium CRUI-CARE, corresponding authors (tenured teaching, research and administrative staff, PhD students) affiliated to the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano may publish open access in hybrid or fully open access (gold) journals. Costs for Article Processing Charges (APCs) are already covered by the subscription.
In the case of costs covered by national subscriptions where the number of annual articles is exhausted, authors will be notified by the publisher and can then choose whether or not to publish in open access and if so choose another kind of funding: the unibz open access publishing fund or other tools.

Costs are covered by the subscription (excluding additional services, such as overlength page or color charges, covers) until articles limit is reached at national level for 2023 and 2024. An unlimited number of articles in eligible hybrid journals is planned for the period 2025-2027. Publication agreement in fully gold open access journals for the period 2025-2027 will be negotiated later.
