Revision and consolidation of some grammatical structures and vocabulary for B1 / B2 level
Specific topics of public debate at national and international level related to the specificity of the course of study
Technical language: terminology, morphology, syntax, text structure.
• Application: CV, cover letter, job interview simulation + Informal and formal e-mails within the academic sector.
• Reports/presentations on discipline-specific topics.
• Present Subjunctive forms and uses.
• Subjunctive Pasts: forms and uses
• Language for specific purposes vocabulary and syntax
• Discursive markers.

Course Topics
General revision and consolidation of grammatical structures and vocabulary for level B1 - B2 - Specific topics related to students' lives - Current themes of public debate - Technical topics based on the language level - Technical language: terminology, morphology, syntax, text structure; - Informal and formal emails in the academic field; - Job application and cover letter; - Reports/presentations on specific discipline topics;

Teaching format
Teaching methodology emphasizes student cooperation and participation in and outside the classroom through individual, pairwise and group work

Educational objectives
The course is intended to further develop Italian language skills, both oral and written. Conversation, reading, and writing focus on language for specific purposes. Educational objectives: - to develop receptive and productive language skills in the field of study; - to acquire study techniques and learning strategies. Specific language skills aims: - Reading: authentic texts from the university environment and the world of science and technology as well as texts from everyday life. - Writing: clear texts concerning the academic field and the world of science and technology. - Listening: everyday language in the form of dialogues, interviews and short presentations on subjects, which are relevant to students. - Speaking: with awareness of register in everyday study situations

Additional educational objectives and learning outcomes
The learning outcomes need to refer to the Dublin Descriptors: At the end of the course, students will have a better knowledge of the Italian language and will be able to: Knowledge and understanding 1) Reading/listening and comprehension of authentic texts taken from the university environment and concerning other more general topics; 2) Understanding appropriate register and style; 3) Organizing a short presentation on a topic connected to the world of science and technology. Applying knowledge and understanding 4) Practical application of the learned language structures and lexis in oral and written communication. 5) Producing and presenting simple texts concerning technical and general topics. Making judgments 6) Integrating knowledge and understanding acquired during the course with knowledge and understanding from other courses. Communication skills 7) Communicating, both orally and written, with a degree of fluency. 8) Adapting language style to show awareness of register.3/8 Learning skills 9) Developing learning capabilities to pursue further studies with a degree of autonomy

Assessment
Written exam with dossier and oral exam with PowerPoint presentation and discussion on the dossier and topics covered during the course. The written exam assesses reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar skills. The use of monolingual or bilingual dictionaries is not permitted. The dossier contains written work on key aspects of the programme that students complete outside the classroom. The deadline for submission will be communicated on Teams. The oral exam is divided into two parts: - Presentation of an agreed topic (PowerPoint) - Discussion of the contents of the dossier and topics covered in class Summative assessment Written exam (reading, vocabulary and grammar skills) supplemented by the dossier) Duration: 60 minutes Written test %: 30% ILOs: 1), 2), 4), 5), 7), 8) Dossier (written work focusing on the central aspects of the programme): %: 20% PowerPoint presentation on assigned/shared or chosen topics: %: 20% ILOs: 6), 7), 9) Oral exam (presentation of an agreed project/topic + discussion of the contents of the dossier) Duration: 15 minutes %: 30% ILOs: 3), 4), 5), 6), 7), 8) Non-attending students will take the same exam as attending students, including the PowerPoint presentation and dossier – they are invited to agree on the topics with the teacher on Teams or via email.

30%: written exam 20%: dossier 30%: oral exam 20%: PowerPoint presentation Assessment criteria: clarity of answers, command of language, ability to summarise, evaluate and establish relationships between topics
