Abstract:

Thepaper addresses the question of whether retirement leads to improvements inhealth, using a difference-in-differences (DID) framework  for olderworkers in Germany between 1992 and 2017. Outcomes such as self-assessedhealth, satisfaction with health, or the number of doctor visits require theuse of non-linear panel data models. We review recent developments in therelated econometric literature and apply them in a unified framework and for asingle dataset and parameter of interest, allowing to assess the robustness ofresults to specific modelling assumptions and to highlight the relativeadvantages of different approaches.
