Italian as a Foreign Language - Advanced Specialized Language course

Revision and consolidation of some grammatical structures and vocabulary (level B2- C1). Specific topics of public debate at national and international level related to the specificity of the course of study. Focus: access to the world of work. Advanced technical language: terminology, syntax, text structure. Reports / presentations on specific topics.

Course Topics
Current topics of economic, political, social and ethical debate in the media The world of work: - Professional profiles and applications (CV, job offer, company information, cover letter, job interview) - Young people and women in the world of work in Italy Technical language: textualization, vocabulary and syntax. Practice of specific grammatical topics for oral interaction and written communication. Test examples (level C1) taken from Italian language certifications.

Propaedeutic courses
Successful completion of the Italian Exam 27116 (first year) is suggested in order to properly follow these lectures.

Teaching format
Teaching methodology emphasizes student cooperation and participation in and outside the classroom through individual, pairwise and group work. Specifically, starting from rich and varied linguistic input, opportunities and activities for linguistic and thematic reflection are offered.

Educational objectives
ILO (Intended Learning Outcomes) ILO 1 Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: ILO 1.1 the ability to communicate fluently and spontaneously with native speakers on economic topics; ILO 2 Communication skills: ILO 2.1 fluency in spoken and written Italian, German and English, including translation of these languages. Intercultural competence. Conceptual conciseness, ability to capture facts in writing, especially for scientific and science-based texts

Additional educational objectives and learning outcomes
ILO 3 Knowledge and Understanding: 3.1 Read, listen to and understand authentic texts that contribute to public debate in Italy and the EU on political, economic and ethical issues. 3.2 Discuss and interpret the materials provided. 3.3 Communicate using appropriate technical terminology, register and style in academic and professional contexts. 3.4 Deliver short presentations on topics covered in class or in another module within the Degree Programme. 3.5 Describe and comment on statistics, surveys and graphs. 3.6 Produce accurate and coherent written work on assigned topics, demonstrating awareness of specialist and standard language varieties.

Assessment
To be admitted to the examination, students must submit a dossier to the lecturers at least 10 days before the examination date. The dossier will be assessed and will contribute to the final mark. The dossier contains three compulsory written assignments to be completed outside the classroom on key aspects of the programme, plus a PowerPoint presentation (the topic will be announced at the beginning of the course). The inclusion of other contributions, in addition to those assigned, is optional. The examination consists of two parts: 1. Written examination: > written test: assesses reading, vocabulary and textual comprehension skills Duration: 60 min. The use of monolingual and bilingual dictionaries is not permitted. > dossier: (see above) (ILOs: 2.1, 3.1, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6) 2. Oral examination: > discussion/interaction on the contents of the dossier and the topics covered during the course > PowerPoint presentation Duration: 15 min. (ILOs: 1.1, 2.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5) Non-attending students will take the same examination as attending students and are invited to contact the lecturer on Teams or by email and to connect regularly to the platform.

Evaluation criteria
30% –> written examination 20% –> dossier 30% -> oral examination 20% -> PowerPoint presentation The dossier is assessed in terms of content consistency and structure, as well as formal correctness. The evaluation criteria: clarity and completeness of answers, linguistic proficiency and correctness, ability to summarise, evaluate and establish relationships between topics.
