Educational objectives
The course is aimed at students and teachers who want to learn and use Austrian Sign Language at level A1.2 in their school or elementary education practice and who should have the appropriate language skills for this. The aim is to learn how to use and implement Austrian Sign Language in educational practice and to learn bilingual-bimodal work with children and young people. The aim is to actively perceive the child with its thoughts and the expression of its feelings and to be able to communicate and relate to it. Communication is the basis for understanding, learning, development and relationships. Language is one of the main forms of communication and the prerequisite for a successful educational path. Austrian Sign Language gives teachers access to non-verbal forms of expression, body language, gestures and facial expressions in order to strengthen the child in the best possible way and accompany them in their development. The aims of this in-depth laboratory are - Students fulfil the requirements of the visual-gestural language modality. - can understand and use familiar, everyday gestures and very simple sentences aimed at satisfying specific needs. - can introduce themselves and others and ask other people questions about themselves - e.g. where they live, who they know, when they work or what things they own - and can answer questions of this kind. - can communicate in a simple way if the other person signs slowly and clearly and accepts constructive feedback. - can express feelings, wishes and personal feelings Knowledge and understanding Students know the basic structures of sign language (syntax, classifiers and localisation) in an extended form and can differentiate between the grammar of the two language systems (German and sign language). Applying knowledge and understanding Students apply their knowledge with increasing confidence in free communication and in practical production and perception exercises. They work on their hand form with the help of exercises. Grammar and vocabulary can be consolidated in simple dialogues with conversation partners. The focus is on describing the shapes and appearance of objects, people and animals. Making judgements You will be able to recognise and correct your own mistakes and give constructive feedback to the other person in partner work. Communication Students can apply their knowledge in simple dialogues, introduce themselves and ask others about themselves. Learning strategies A mix of different methods is important for sustainable learning. Practical exercises and games in the group (e.g. memory, silent post and dialogue exercises) contribute significantly to learning success. Various sign language videos also improve language skills.

Assessment
The oral and written examination is held in sign language, as is the entire course. Part 2 (reception) is written in German. The examination consists of 3 components: 1. Production: students create a sign text in sign language (narrative, report) on the basis of a task. 2. Reception: Students are given the task of watching a video or the lecturer presenting a sign language text and answering questions about the text in writing. German written. 3. Interaction: conversation in sign language with the lecturer, free communication and interaction in Austrian sign language is tested. In addition, three assignments will be included in the overall assessment. Details will be explained at the beginning of the semester and published on the relevant learning platform. The basic structures of sign language (syntax, facial expressions, classifiers and localisation) are checked. Dialogues are checked for fluency and correct grammar.

Evaluation criteria
Correctness of the answers, completeness in the completion of the homework.
