The course will discuss the sociolinguistic aspects that most characterise the Ladin territory, with its simultaneous presence of numerous codes, both in terms of languages (Ladin-Italian-German-English) and dialects. Starting from a reflection on the concept of the linguistic community of a small language, topics will be addressed which arise in particular from the close relationship between language and society and which visibly as well as indirectly influence the use of language.

Educational objectives
The course aims to enable students to develop an awareness of linguistic phenomena concerning the current state of their own variety and of Ladin in general. Furthermore, the course aims to impart the necessary knowledge to be able to understand and place the changes in a language through the use of its speakers. By the end of the course, students should have developed the following disciplinary competences - basic knowledge of the fundamentals of sociolinguistics in a minority context - Ability to reflect on the language-community relationship - Ability to compare different case studies By the end of the course, students should have acquired the following transversal skills - ability to make judgements and argue them - ability to participate actively in class activities - ability to clearly outline cognitive acquisitions

Additional educational objectives and learning outcomes
Ability to apply acquired knowledge in practice.

Evaluation criteria
The following are considered and assessed: relevance, logical structure, clarity of argument, lexical appropriateness, completeness, capacity for critical analysis, ability to rework and reflect.
