Foundations of the general Sociology

The course provides a general overview of the scientific content and foundations of sociology in terms of basic concepts, theories and methods of sociological knowledge. The distinction between micro-, meso- and macro-sociology and their respective theoretical frameworks will be introduced.

Principles and foundations of sociology sps07 general sociology, area di base The aim of the course is to provide students with a general ability to understand social dynamics and their overall implications in the communication society. The learning outcomes need to refer to the Dublin Descriptors: - Knowledge and understanding - Applying knowledge and understanding - Making judegments - Communication skills - Learning skills

Additional expected objectives regarding the skills learned in the course are: - Sociological knowledge and ability to understand social dynamics - Ability to apply knowledge and understanding to social cases - Communication skills in a social context and learning appropriate sociological terminology

Assessment
- Written exam - (open-ended questions) + oral exam + Project work done during the course (written group projects/applied projects/class presentation)

Evaluation criteria
The final grade will be based on: relevant to the written exam (with open-ended questions): ability to interact with the concepts and theories and capacity apply them to everyday situations; logical structure, ability to argue, accuracy, etc. For the oral exam: speaking skills, argumentation skills, critical analysis skills, ability to summarize in one's own words, reflection.
