Successful completion of this course is confirmed by the library as having reached the level according to the "Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education". This is provided for in the regulations for the final examination, which applies to students enrolled from a. This applies to students enrolled from 2012/2013 onwards and to all students on the Master's degree programme in Educational Sciences for Primary Education.
In terms of content, the aim is to acquire the skills needed to quickly and skilfully find high-quality information, e.g. for a seminar paper or thesis. It also deals with issues of citation, literature management and the critical, responsible handling of information.
The targeted planning of research, the use of search strategies and the practised use of research tools and results make studying easier right from the start.

Educational objectives
The course offers theoretical basics and practical exercises on the following topics: - Trying out search strategies and research tools - Obtaining and evaluating information - using subject-specific databases - consider formal criteria of academic work (creating a bibliography, applying APA citation style). Expected learning outcomes and competences: Knowledge and understanding Students are familiar with the standards of information literacy (Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education). They recognise and formulate their own information needs and understand the connection between the quality of the search query and the quality of the search results. Applying knowledge and understanding Students use different search strategies and have the ability to find and obtain the required information using appropriate research tools in print or digital format. They handle information responsibly. Students know the difference between references and a bibliography and can apply the citation guidelines according to the APA citation style specified by the faculty. Students know how a reference management programme works and how to use it. Judgement Students can critically evaluate search results for relevance and reliability and recognise the scientific content of information. Communication Students can verbalise their own search behaviour in a reflective manner and justify the use of various tools and simple citation rules. Learning strategies The acquired knowledge is consolidated in targeted practical tasks and through independent practice.

Assessment
A written partial performance assessment during the laboratory and a research protocol of literature, which is prepared as part of the laboratory, and finally the oral examination. During the planned office hours, which are communicated at the beginning of the laboratory, feedback is offered on the specified performance assessment and the research protocol of literature.

Evaluation criteria
The evaluation of the results refers to the stringency of the answers in the tests and the degree to which the criteria of the research tasks are fulfilled.
