Project type: Contract for research project
Acronym: SUST_MANTECO
Start date: 24/05/2023
End date: 31/07/2023

With the recent approval of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the European Union has superseded the previous Directive known as the Non Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD). Pending the adoption of a single European standard, the GRI principles have established themselves as a global standard for sustainability reporting. The latest revision of the GRI standards introduced changes both in terms of structure and content and entered into force at the beginning of 2023. The evolution of legislation and standards have contributed to increasing corporate responsibility and transparency towards of the stakeholders. By means of sustainability reporting it is possible to measure the impact generated by an activity on the environment and on society as a whole. The analysis of the impact of the activities can be deepened by disclosing the company's contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030.

The project aims to examine the phases of the transition process of Manteco's sustainability reporting to the new version of the GRI standards to be used for the preparation of sustainability reports and to investigate the process of integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into corporate strategy and reporting.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues form the basis of a healthy corporate culture. Companies pursuing an ESG strategy can improve their competitive advantage and their financial performance. Further, ESG-oriented companies are more attractive for investors and lenders. The project aims to disseminate knowledge about business-related sustainability topics and support the transition of selected local companies towards a sustainability-oriented business model. More in detail, the first part of the project will develop a tool to collect non-financial data and analyze the sustainability performance. Based on the results, the second part will be focused on identifying critical business activities and improvement areas, as well as on developing a procedure to define sustainability goals and embed them in sustainability plans.
