The course is intended as an introduction to Romance and Ladin linguistics, focusing on a) the object of Romance and Ladin linguistics (the Neo-Latin languages), b) the methods that characterise it and c) examples of representative evolutionary phenomena with reference to the fields of phonetics, morphology, lexicon and syntax

The Romance languages: number, distribution, relevance Classification of Romance languages The dimensions of variation in (Romance) languages From Latin to Ladin: the most characteristic developments in the areas of phonetics/phonology, morphology, lexicon and syntax that manifest themselves in Ladin

Educational objectives
Participants are expected to be able to assimilate the fundamentals of the course, to be able to explain them clearly, and to be able to apply them to new linguistic materials and to be able to use them to explore similar topics. Knowledge and understanding The main notions of Romance and Ladin linguistics Ability to apply knowledge and understanding To frame the position of Ladin in relation to certain criteria within the neo-Latin languages Autonomy of judgement Competence in reflection, discussion and in-depth study of the topics dealt with Communication skills Ability to present the contents learned in oral and written form Ability to learn Ability to deepen and elaborate on the topics learned in an autonomous manner.

Evaluation criteria
The following are considered and assessed: relevance, logical structure, clarity of argument, lexical appropriateness, completeness, capacity for critical analysis, ability to re-elaborate and reflect.
