Our PhD programme will introduce you to research in the traditional and most recent developments in the social sciences and the humanities. 

Course description

You will be able to analyse the most urgent social issues and demands and their effects on education. For this reason, the programme places great emphasis on the use of consolidated quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Students and lecturers coming from different countries and communities and researching a variety of topics give this programme an international and interdisciplinary outlook.

Structure of the course

This is a full-time PhD programme and you can choose between three research areas: General Pedagogy, General Didactics and Disciplinary Didactics, Social Pedagogy and Social services. The three research areas share modules on research epistemology and on qualitative and quantitative research methods.

During the three years, you will have to take part in diversified teaching activities: a series of introductory lessons, workshops and seminars that illustrate and explore in depth the issues and research fields available in the programme and the most recent developments in education and the social sciences.

Fieldwork abroad

During your PhD you are required to spend at least three months abroad. You can choose to split your trip abroad into three stays of at least three consecutive weeks each.

Partner universities and institutions

Our faculty collaborates with many universities and research centres in Italy and abroad. Among our partners, besides the two Euregio universities of Innsbruck and Trento, are also the universities of Ghent, Toledo and Bielefeld.

In order to gain admission to the PhD programme, you'll need to have obtained 300 ECTS credits (Master degree) and provide proof of your competence in the three languages in which the modules are taught.

The official application period for the academic year 2017/2018 is from mid-May until 3 July 2017.
