The course addresses the issues and problems of social pedagogy by focusing on the relationship between society, culture and education, i.e. how the cultural context is able to influence educational policies and processes. Educational processes will be analysed in relation to how educational work is able to transform cultural and social orientations.

Themen der Lehrveranstaltung
1. Theoretical foundations of social pedagogy Definition and fields of social pedagogy. Principles of critical pedagogy. 2. The school as a social educational space The social function of the school in contemporary times. Formal, non-formal and informal education: interconnections. 3. Distress, exclusion and vulnerability Minors at risk, new educational poverty, school drop out. The role of the teacher in prevention and intervention. 4. Pedagogy of bonds and educating community The educational relationship as a transformative tool. School, families, services: educational alliances. 5. Education and participation The centrality of students in educational processes. Education for empowerment and development of critical consciousness. Strategies to promote inclusion and well-being at school.

Unterrichtsform
Topics will be introduced through brief lectures, followed by group discussions, small-group activities, analysis of videos and texts, and guided classroom reflections.

Bildungsziele
Understand the social role of the school as an educational agency. Analysing the phenomena of exclusion, marginality, hardship and violence. To know socio-educational intervention approaches and methodologies. To develop an educational vision centred on relationships, community and the right to education. To know and understand - of the key concepts of social pedagogy - of methodological choices Ability to apply knowledge and understanding - to know how to analyse educational needs for individuals and communities - to be able to analyse and understand the complexity of new emergencies and forms of marginalisation - to be able to assess the potential of a pedagogical intervention - to be able to design preventive and educational interventions in different learning contexts Autonomy of judgement - ability to reflect critically - ability to work in a team - ability to analyse problems and propose innovative and creative solutions - ability to make decisions in situations of conflict and/or complexity - ability to reflect critically on theory Communication skills - knowing how to communicate in a manner appropriate to the interlocutors - ability to apply active listening techniques - being able to communicate and report within a team - know how to communicate to share proposals, identify solutions - knowing how to support and encourage self-esteem and empowerment resources (empowerment) - being able to communicate and relate with people of different language and culture Learning skills: - ability to learn collaboratively and share knowledge - ability to apply knowledge in broader or different contexts than those identified in the course Transversal/soft skills: - knowing how to apply learning strategies - ability to solve problems creatively and innovatively - knowing how to work effectively in a team

Art der Prüfung
The written exam includes both open and closed questions covering the course content.

Bewertungskriterien
The evaluation of the written exam will take into account the following criteria: • clarity of expression • pertinence • argumentative and logical coherence • ability to apply and elaborate on acquired knowledge in terms of professional applicability • critical analysis skills • reflective thinking These criteria will account for 10% of the overall assessment.
