This presentation analyses the gender and family norms that are produced through national reproductive policies; the effects that these have on people seeking reproductive care; and the different kind of vulnerabilities and marginalities that such policies produce.

It also illustrates how people who fail to find support in the public reproductive service resort to self-arranged solutions or seek care across borders. It suggests how local selective and directive reproductive policies which produce a lack of local support for different reproductive aspirations, needs, and understandings, do not stop people from trying to pursue their reproductive goals.

On the contrary, people falling in-between the gaps of existing reproductive policies challenge and subvert them by exposing the very peculiar intertwining of the notion of gender, expert knowledge, technologies, and health these propose.
