In this course, the most important childhood illnesses, paediatric emergencies and first aid measures for everyday teaching in kindergarten and primary school are discussed. Participants should familiarise themselves with the symptoms of the most important childhood illnesses, learn how to react correctly in emergencies in kindergarten or primary school and be able to use immediate measures and first aid for children.

General condition and how to assess it. Fever as the leading symptom in paediatrics Sepsis/shock. Pediatric emergencies: - Behaviour in an emergency - Choking/suffocation - Resuscitation in children - Drowning - Anaphylaxis - Febrile seizure and epileptic fit - Concussion - Pseudocroup - Sun protection/sunstroke - Accidents - Burns/scalds - Poisoning - Wounds and bites - Tooth injury - Dangerous toys - Equipped for emergencies: Kindergarten/school first aid kit Common childhood illnesses by body region: - Head (headache, head injury, unconsciousness, meningitis, middle ear infection, sore throat, reddened eye, itching in the head area, tooth decay) - Thorax (breathing problems, pseudocroup, asthma) - Abdomen (stomach flu, constipation, urinary tract infections) - Genitals (testicular pain, itching in the genital area, pain when urinating) - Skeleton (bone fractures and joint sprains) - Skin (dangerous and harmless efflorescences of the skin; frequent infections such as hand, mouth and foot disease, scarlet fever, measles, chickenpox, hives, tick bites, scabies, etc.) Child protection - Bruises: accident or not? - Get to know and recognise forms of child abuse

Modalità di insegnamento
Frontal, small group discussions based on clinical cases, practical exercises on the phantom, group work and development of flow charts for practice

Obiettivi formativi
The aim of the course is to provide participants with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to recognise the most common childhood illnesses and acute emergencies. The aim is also to acquire the skills required to correctly perform basic resuscitation on children. Expected learning outcomes and competences Knowledge and understanding: Basic knowledge of pediatric illnesses and pediatric emergencies; knowledge of different causes of the most common pediatric illnesses and pediatric emergencies. Application of knowledge and understanding: Interpret relevant data and aspects of pediatric health leading to correct initial assessment of childhood illnesses; Demonstration of basic resuscitation measures on the simulation manikin. Communication: Ability to convey basic medical information to experts (paramedics, emergency medical services) and lay people (parents) using different forms of communication. Learning strategies: Methodological competence that applies an appropriate method of accessing and strategising the interpretation of initial symptoms of pediatric illnesses and pediatric emergencies on the basis of the technical principles learnt.

- immanent - Group work with poster design and presentation on an assigned topic

Criteri di valutazione
70% of the assessment: active participation, participation in discussions with qualified contributions, working behaviour in the group during group work, contribution of experience and new ideas 30% of the assessment on the basis of technical accuracy and communication skills in the poster design and presentation
